LG Electronics (LG) has been recognized for the technological and design excellence of its latest lifestyle solutions, earning more than 30 CES® 2024 Innovation Awards across Home Appliance, Home Entertainment and B2B categories, including two coveted Best of Innovation Awards for LG OLED TVs.

The full list and details of LG’s CES 2024 Innovation Award recipients will be announced at CES 2024 on January 7.

Of the 33 CES Innovation Awards LG will receive at CES 2024, 15 have been awarded to LG TVs including 12 for LG OLED, marking the 12th consecutive year that the company’s self-lit TVs have received CES Innovation Award honors.

Among the new LG Home Entertainment innovations also honored are LG Soundbars, LG XBOOM Portable Speakers and LG Smart TV webOS apps. LG Home Appliance products honored this year include LG SIGNATURE Washer & Dryers. LG Business Solutions products honored include LG UltraGear Gaming Monitors, LG SMART Monitor, LG gram Laptops and LG CLOi ServeBot.

LG Electronics announced a year-long partnership with “The Drew Barrymore Show” for its fourth season. As part of this collaboration, LG kitchen and laundry appliances will be featured in various segments throughout the season where Drew Barrymore and guests will be demonstrating living hacks designed to simplify and enhance everyday life.

LG Electronics announced that its premium refrigerator (600-liter models) has received International Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certification. This is the second time the model has earned EPD certification, having already been recognized by EPD Norway last year. The refrigerator reduces energy consumption thanks to its advanced Inverter Linear Compressor, vacuum insulation and an optimized refrigeration cycle.

The International EPD System is designed to quantify the environmental impact of a product throughout its entire lifecycle, including production, transportation, distribution, usage and disposal. It provides consumers with accurate and transparent information about a product’s effect on the planet, helping them to choose devices that can support their efforts to live more sustainably. Products are assessed according to international standards, which consumers can learn more about on the official EPD website.

Via its rich ecosystem of products, and with the consent of its customers LG Electronics is actively collecting and organizing data throughout the entire customer journey. Based on the analysis of this data, the company is developing various services and features to further improve the customer experience.

By utilizing ‘big data,’ LG is showing how digital transformation (DX) can simultaneously enhance business competitiveness and bring greater value to consumers. LG is applying DX technology to several key areas of its operations, such as product development, manufacturing and sales.

Among the most interesting application of big data, we can mention the customer service. ITo help avoid any major breakdowns, and the hassle that invariably comes along with them, LG Electronics developed a technology that preemptively checks for any potential issues and takes action in advance if any is required. The collection and analysis of home appliance data makes it possible to identify if a product has been incorrectly installed or is being improperly used, flagging the problem before any actual damage is done.

LG is expanding this preventive maintenance technology, which is being used throughout its home appliance lineups, by incorporating data-based AI care services. One such service enables the company’s washing machines to notify users when the drum needs cleaning due to laundry contamination or inform them if there is a risk of pipes freezing or bursting due to cold ambient temperatures. LG’s AI customer care features can be easily managed using the LG ThinQ app.

Since the end of 2021, LG Electronics has been implementing resource circulation programs in a total of 52 countries worldwide as part of its extensive efforts to combat greenhouse gas emissions. At the Lg Recycling Center in South Korea, which commenced operations in 2001, raw materials are harvested from disposed-of home appliances, meticulously sorted and processed before being made into ‘fresh’ eco-responsible appliance components.

The program includes four steps. The first is Collection: used appliances such as refrigerators, washers and air conditioners are collected and transported to the center, then the second step starts, Disassemble and Crush: the appliances are taken apart, and the components are crushed to achieve a consistent size.

Sorting and Processing is the third part of the program: after iron, aluminum, copper and plastic materials have been sorted, the plastics are put through an additional process where they are made into pellets; a convenient and renewable resource for the manufacturing of plastic parts and goods. Finally, the company organizes the Rebirth: The pellets are melted and transformed into plastic parts for use in the production of new LG home appliances.

In addition, Lg plans to reach a cumulative total of 600,000 tons of recycled plastics (for producing home appliance components) by the beginning of the next decade. The ambitious target is set out in the company’s ‘Better Life Plan 2030,’ and also forms part of LG’s broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality.

LG tiiun was devised and developed by Sprout Company, the first company-in-company (CIC) established by LG. Forming independent in-house companies, such as Sprout, has helped LG to foster innovative new business ideas and enter new markets more efficiently. Case in point, the tiiun mini was developed and launched much faster than its predecessor.

Shin Sang-youn, head of Sprout Company, set three clear goals to grow the ‘pet plant’ market and the popularity of LG tiiun: «our objectives were to turn customers previously uninterested in gardening into plant-lovers, influence customers with an interest in keeping plants to choose LG tiiun and create a fandom among LG tiiun owners».

LG Electronics shared its vision for the home of tomorrow at the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) conference in Seoul, South Korea. With LG ThinQ smart home platform, the company promises to enable users to enjoy optimal comfort and convenience throughout their living spaces and daily lives.

A board member of CSA, the organization that developed the Matter open standard for smart home technology, LG is committed to offering integration between LG ThinQ and other smart home platforms. The company also envisions a Zero Labor Home where LG ThinQ leverages AI and contextual understanding to predict users’ needs and provide tailored services that make everything easier. Based on the three core pillars of evolution, connectivity and openness, here’s how LG ThinQ opens up new possibilities and an unprecedented level of convenience at home.

The “Whole Home Project” is an annual showcase of the best home designs and products in the United States. This marks the project’s fifth year and its first renovation of an existing property, rather than a new build. The project’s sponsor, House Beautiful magazine, partnered with LG and a renowned builder, architect as well as top designers from around the U.S. to reimagine the spaces throughout a modern Tudor home in Atlanta, Georgia, with a focus on living better at home.

American designer Whittney Parkinson used a number of award-winning Signature Kitchen Suite appliances from LG. The oversized eat-in kitchen features the 48-inch built-in French-Door refrigerator with a large interior capacity and precise preservation technology. Key features include Lift and Go drawers, fully adjustable door bins, hidden LED lighting so you can see everything in the fridge and a dual ice maker that makes both cubed ice and slow melting, spherical craft ice.

Regarding the cooking, the project included the Signature Kitchen Suite 48-inch Dual-Fuel Pro Range comes with built-in sous vide, alongside induction and gas cooktops paired with two ovens, giving homeowners the most flexibility in one unit. «One thing we love about Signature Kitchen Suite is that their products work throughout the home. You’ll find their dual undercounter refrigerators everywhere – in the owner’s suite, work from home quarters, guest room and of course, the media room – for those family night movie marathons when you don’t want to run down to the kitchen – said Carisha Swanson, House Beautiful Director of Special Projects-. Both drawers operate independently with multiple temperature settings and can even drop down to a freezer.»

The newly introduced refrigerator with MoodUP from LG Electronics is equipped with the LG8111, an on-device AI system-on-chip (SoC) developed by LG’s SIC Center. Even before it was known as LG Electronics, the company began producing chips for consumer electronics as far back as 1992, at the ASIC Center under Goldstar’s Central Research Institute. Now, LG’s SIC Center is responsible for developing all of the AI chips used in LG products. These technologies have evolved over time to become the AI-based integrated circuits now used in cutting-edge appliances and home entertainment solutions such as LG OLED TV, and now, the fridge with MoodUP.

The LG’s latest AI chips can process innumerable data points and enable LG appliances to communicate with one another, and with other smart devices as well. LG8111, the new AI chip used in the MoodUP, features an acceleration engine that processes information gathered from the refrigerator’s built-in cameras, microphones and sensors in real time. This allows the MoodUP to quickly recognize changes in its immediate environment and adjust performance accordingly, facilitate more convenient interactions with users and accurately assess if all of its features are functioning optimally.

LG8111 can provide vision intelligence (the ability to recognize and distinguish between different spaces, locations, objects and users), voice intelligence (the ability to recognize users’ voices or specific noises associated with a certain type of space) and control intelligence (the ability to adjust and optimize performance according to physical or chemical changes in the environment). Also, when connected to Wi-Fi, any product equipped with the LG8111 can transmit information to nearby devices or to cloud servers.
